Did you know Parkway Pre-School has a wonderful Kindergarten program?

Parkway feels we have a unique Kindergarten class with a low teacher-pupil ratio that encourages a child’s growth on an individual basis. Children working at their own levels help them accomplish one skill successfully prior to moving onto another, which helps in building a firm foundation. Parkway offers phonics and reading programs which allow each child to progress at their own pace. Our Kindergarten class is designed to teach and enrich the students through work and play.

We are currently looking for a replacement for our phonics program because it has been discontinued. You can be assured that we will not compromise the integrity of our phonics program. We will be looking for a program that has all the same concepts of our former program. It will include auditory, visual, and motor skills. The alphabet will be taught through letter recognition, writing the letter and phonemic awareness. Short vowels and long vowels will be introduced after the consonants. For those students who complete the entire series we have a special book that is “never ending!” They just can’t quite figure that one out! It is compiled from a first grade phonics book according to their own special needs and continues on to a first grade grammar book. Our reading program is Phonics Practice Readers by Modern Curriculum Press which includes six sets of 10 books each. Ready Readers follow for those children completing the first sets. Our Math is Math by Scott Foresman and incorporates learning through manipulation.

Besides these areas of concentration, we have science and social studies activities as well as motor development and music weekly. Religion is also a special part of learning. We have a monthly time with Pastor Tom in the sanctuary. We use a faith-based Alphabet Journal as well as Bible verses and stories and mealtime prayers.

This is just a small sample of what takes place in the Kindergarten class. If you would like to know more about our Kindergarten stop by during the week and take a look. Its worth the visit.
