Midweek Groups
Bridges
Wednesdays at Piccadilly at 5:30 pm. Led by Pastor Tom Paine
The popular Bridges class is held on Wednesday nights where we dig into our Bible readings. Join us for dinner at 5:30 pm and then stay for this class as we discover the historical significance of the passages that we will be studying on the following Sunday as well as their place within Scripture. The class then discusses the parallels and contrasts that they see in the stories as it relates to our lives, the circumstance in Metairie, Greater New Orleans, Parkway, the larger church, the nation, and the world. Held at Piccadilly on Clearview Parkway, location may vary.
The Way of Prayer
First and Third Thursdays of the month
Led by Jan Faust
This evening study gathers at 7:30 p.m. in private homes. This study leads us on a journey into the heart of prayer, explores the nature of prayer and a number of prayer forms, including “How Do You Pray?”, “Images of God”, scrip-tural prayer, contemplative prayer, and praying with and for others. The group meets on the first and third Thursday evenings in private homes. It is a sharing and support group as well as a study group. For information about meeting locations, contact the church office at 733-1644.
Miriam Circle for Presbyterian Women
Second Tuesday of each month
1:00 pm at the church in Room 9
Women who are members or friends of Parkway are invited to join us on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. in room 9 for our Bible study. This year’s Bible study will be Confessing the Beatitudes.
The Beatitudes are some of the most beloved teachings of Jesus, yet they may well be some of the most pointed. In this study, Margaret Aymer invites us to consider the Beatitudes as they might have been heard when Jesus spoke them - during the time of the Roman Empire. (While great in many respects, Rome was a cruel and bru-tal regime that did not stop short of executing anyone who challenged its authority.)
Confessing the Beatitudes is aptly named, as we are invited at the end of each lesson to enter into a process of confession. Confession in this heartfelt manner is a con-crete way for us to make the Beatitudes part of our journey of discipleship as we move from confession to action.
