Parkway Presbyterian Church believes that music is an integral part of the worship experience. To this end, Parkway's varied music programs and groups, which offer numerous and attractive opportunities for those with interest and talent in music, are dedicated to providing, enhancing and enriching worship for Parkways members and friends. These groups and the times, weekly, that they meet and rehearse are as follows: Adult Chancel Choir | English Handbell Choir | Children's Choir
The Chancel Choir is made up of Parkway members of varying musical ability. Most choir members can read music, but this is not a requirement. The only requirements are a willingness to learn, an eager spirit, a love of Christ and the commitment to a rehearsal each Wednesday and church each Sunday morning. This choir is a fine musical organization which has sung works by the masters, e.g. Bach, Beethoven, Handel, as well as more contemporary composers. Parkway's choir and overall music program is reputed throughout the community.
Parkway's English Handbell Choir"Les Belles Chansons" 8:15 pm to 9:00 pm, Wednesday "Praise him with timbrel...; Praise him with loud clashing cymbals!" "Les Belles Chansons," Parkway Presbyterian Church's premier English Handbell Choir, rings six octaves of Schulmerich Handbells along with five octaves of Malmark Choir Chimes. This choir is made up of talented musicians, all Parkway members. These folks are by trade educators, medical professionals, computer professionals, work-at-home moms and attorneys. "Les Belles Chansons" was featured at the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR) Area VI Conventions in Little Rock, Arkansas and Huntsville, Alabama. Its concert at St. Alphonsus Art and Cultural Center appeared on the cover of Overtones, the national AGEHR publication. This outreach program of Parkway Presbyterian Church brings well-crafted music to areas without such musical programs and participates in fund-raisers for church related activities.
Parkway's Children's Choir2nd - 5th grade - Sunday, 10:40 am - 11:10 am Preschool - 1st grade - Sunday, 11:10 am - 11:30 am "O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things!" The Preschool children's music program is incorporated in the weekly Children's Church Program that takes place during our 10:30 worship service. After the children's sermon segment, our Preschool - First grade primarily and second graders and above who are not yet comfortable in the larger church experience, exit the worship to participate in Children's Church. This 45 minute program begins with group prayer, welcoming new comers, Bible study, scripture reinforcing activities and music. The music segment includes singing and playing "Krystal Bells," which are a color coded flash card system that allows children of all ages to feel accomplishment. Our group concludes with a prayer that incorporates concerns of the children. If time permits, outside play or fellowship is included. |
